The 2021 Domaine Roulot Auxey-Duresses Premier Cru Rouge is a beautifully crafted Pinot Noir that highlights the elegance and charm of this lesser-known Côte de Beaune appellation. Domaine Roulot, famed for its white wines from Meursault, brings the same meticulous care and terroir-driven philosophy to its red wines, crafting a wine of finesse and balance from the esteemed Premier Cru vineyards of Auxey-Duresses.

In the glass, this wine presents a vibrant ruby hue. The nose is fresh and aromatic, with enticing aromas of red cherries, cranberries, and raspberries, accented by floral hints of violets and subtle earthy undertones of forest floor and spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity that enhances the bright red fruit flavors. A touch of minerality and savory complexity adds depth, leading to a clean, elegant finish.

The 2021 vintage, characterized by cooler and more challenging growing conditions, imparts this wine with remarkable freshness, precision, and a refined structure. It pairs beautifully with dishes such as roasted poultry, grilled salmon, or mushroom risotto, offering versatility at the table. While approachable now for its youthful vibrancy and expressive fruit, this Premier Cru has the structure to age gracefully over the next 7–10 years, gaining additional nuance and sophistication. Domaine Roulot’s Auxey-Duresses Premier Cru Rouge is a compelling example of how this appellation can produce Pinot Noir of outstanding character and elegance.

The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his fathers success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.
