The 2021 Pierre Morey Monthelie Rouge is a refined and elegant Pinot Noir that beautifully represents the character of Monthelie, a charming village nestled between Volnay and Auxey-Duresses in the Côte de Beaune. Pierre Morey, a renowned figure in Burgundy and an advocate of biodynamic viticulture, brings a deep respect for terroir to this wine. Crafted with meticulous care, this Monthelie Rouge reflects both the vintage’s finesse and the domaine’s commitment to producing wines of precision and balance.

In the glass, the wine displays a bright ruby hue. The nose is vibrant and complex, with aromas of fresh red cherries, wild strawberries, and raspberries, accented by floral hints of violets and subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and silky, with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity providing structure and energy. The red fruit flavors are complemented by notes of forest floor, a touch of spice, and a whisper of minerality, leading to a long, refreshing finish.

The 2021 vintage, shaped by cooler conditions, lends this wine remarkable freshness and clarity, emphasizing its vibrant fruit and elegant profile. It pairs wonderfully with dishes such as roasted poultry, grilled salmon, or wild mushroom tart. While approachable now for its youthful brightness and charm, this wine has the potential to age gracefully over the next 5–7 years, revealing additional layers of complexity. Pierre Morey’s Monthelie Rouge is a delightful expression of the village’s unique terroir, offering both accessibility and sophistication.

Pierre Morey is a towering figure in Meursault. Along with his own prime vineyards he was also the winemaker at Domaine Leflaive in the 1980's and early '90's. He was one of the first growers in the region to fully embrace biodynamic farming, converting both Leflaive and his own domaine and reaching full certification by 1997. Now his daughter, Anne Morey, has taken the healm and is continuing on the path he started. She is a very intelligent, passionate and gracious person and her talents in the vineyard and cellar are exceptional.
