Antinori, one of Tuscany’s most historic and respected wine families, crafts Badia a Passignano from a stunning, centuries-old abbey property in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. This bottling, elevated to Gran Selezione status—the highest tier of Chianti Classico—comes from estate-only, old-vine Sangiovese, aged patiently in the cellars beneath the abbey.

The 2010 vintage is now hitting its peak, offering a deeply expressive, mature Sangiovese experience: aromas of dried cherry, violets, leather, tobacco, and forest floor lead into a silky, layered palate. Red and black fruit are seamlessly integrated with savory earth, spice, and refined, well-resolved tannins. The finish is long, complex, and beautifully balanced, carrying the quiet authority that only time can bring.

This is Gran Selezione at its finest—rich but poised, powerful but elegant, with true staying power.

Pair with: bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragù, aged Pecorino, or truffle risotto.

"Antinori's 2010 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano is laced with red cherry, plum, leather, tobacco and smoke. Layered and impeccably balanced in the glass, the 2010 impresses for its texture and exceptional sense of harmony. In this vintage, the Badia is dark, voluptuous and built on pure resonance. This is a terrific showing from Antinori." -Antonio Galloni

"Renzo Cotarella is one of a handful of people who believe that the Gran Selezione category should be 100% Sangiovese. The 2010 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano is an elegant and seamless mono-variety expression that shows loads of Sangiovese character in this classic vintage. Aged only in large oak casks, the wine sports fresh berry flavors with sweet tannins and a long, velvety finish. I feel that this wine might get buried between the many other products offered by Marchesi Antinori. I hope not because ultimately the Gran Selezione offers very specific, territory-driven qualities that set it apart." -Monica Larner

"Leather and licorice notes frame a core of cherry in this rich, dense red. Graphite, tobacco and smoke notes add interest as this unwinds on the long, savory aftertaste. Balanced, with a firm, minerally finish. Drink now through 2023. 1,500 cases imported." -Bruce Sanderson

"This opens with subtle aromas of dark berry, tobacco and exotic spice. The vibrant palate is more expressive, delivering a core of juicy black cherry accented with notes of raspberry, white pepper, vanilla, licorice and savory herb alongside tightly knit but fine-grained tannins that need time to unwind. It’s still young but structured and loaded with finesse. Drink 2016–2025." -Kerin Okeefe
