As one of Bordeaux’s most storied First Growths, Château Haut-Brion rarely misses a step—but in 2021, a vintage marked by cool weather and precision over power, it produced something truly timeless. Where others struggled, Haut-Brion leaned into its gravelly soils and deep cellar know-how to craft a wine of structure, restraint, and remarkable finesse.

The 2021 blend leans slightly higher on Cabernet Sauvignon than usual, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc rounding things out in perfect proportion. The result is aromatic and focused: graphite, cassis, cedar, and crushed herbs wrapped in ultra-fine tannins. There's no excess ripeness, no push for richness—just clarity, length, and quiet intensity that builds with time in the glass.

This is Haut-Brion for purists—less opulent than recent warm vintages, but no less noble. It’s a wine made for the cellar, with decades of evolution ahead, but already shows glimpses of its regal composure. Pair it simply: roast lamb, aged cheeses, or a moment of reflection.

"The 2021 Haut-Brion has a very pure bouquet, quite complex with a mixture of blueberry and black cherry fruit, iris flower and violet, hints of sea spray in the background. This is more engaging than the 2021 La Mission Haut-Brion at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, good fruit concentration considering the vintage, commendable salinity and a harmonious, sapid finish that is classic in style. I suspect this may well close down for a period of time before re-opening."

"Scented flowers and red berries on the nose, lovely aromatics with green peppercorns, herbal blackcurrant leaf and floral scents. Rich and round for a 2021, high acidity gives the life-force but this has a great structure in the mouth. Quite imposing tannins cover the entire tongue and cheeks, and I love it. Grippy, focused, this is one of the more demonstrative 2021 wines in terms of texture and power, but still keeps precision and direction. Chalky grip, a mineral undertone and feeling of substance on the finish. Allow a few more years before starting on this."
