2003 was a famously hot vintage in Bordeaux, and Château Rieussec turned that ripeness into a powerhouse of a Sauternes—intense, deeply layered, and now beautifully mellowed with age. Rieussec, a First Growth in the Sauternes classification and longtime neighbor to Yquem, is known for its rich style and generous use of botrytized fruit. This half bottle is hitting a lovely sweet spot between opulence and elegance.

Expect layers of dried apricot, orange marmalade, and tropical fruit compote, along with notes of toasted almond, saffron, and crème brûlée. The palate is lush and velvety, with enough acidity to keep it from feeling cloying. It’s a perfect companion to Roquefort, foie gras, or simply enjoyed solo, slowly, at the end of a good meal. A classic Sauternes that’s drinking perfectly now.

"Big, rich and juicy. Voluptuous, with aromas of caramel, apple and light tropical fruit. Full-bodied, round and very sweet, with loads of ripe fruit and a long butterscotch and piecrust aftertaste. Viscous texture. Hard not to drink it now. A wonderful sticky."
