Join them on the mezz for a rare collaboration class taught by Flatiron Wine School's own Ren Peir and Julia Burke.

This class will be held on Tuesday, April 1 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this special event. and run for approximately 90 minutes. Wines tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited. Get tickets now.

Tuesday, April 8: Jura-MAZING! (taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW)

Difficulty level: Deep Dive

There is something special about the wines from the Jura that you don’t find anywhere else in the world. This French sub-Alpine region is nestled a stone’s throw from Switzerland on a base of Jurassic limestone, and its unique elements give the wines a surprising combination: ethereal yet powerful.

Join Annie Edgerton, DWSET, as she transports you to this fascinating slice of the wine world. She thinks the bubbly Cremant du Jura is one of the best under-the-radar fizzes, period. The whites are based on Chardonnay — expressing here like nowhere else — and the local Savagnin… and can be fresh and zippy like an Alpine lace collar, or produced under flor (as with Sherry) for a truly savory sip. Take that even further and you get the fascinating Vin Jaune. And don’t forget the reds, from Trousseau and Poulsard (Ploussard). If you like Pinot Noir, you’ll understand them, but they’ll surprise you with their savory energy. Once people discover the Jura, they are usually hooked for life — come find out why!

This class will begin at 6:00pm on Tuesday, April 8 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Wines tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited. Get tickets now.

Thursday, April 17: Ancient Winemaking or Modern Trend? All About Petillant Naturel (taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW)

Note that this event takes place on a Thursday, April 17!
Difficulty level: Wine 101

Pétillant Naturel, or “Pet Nat”, is enjoying its time in the spotlight, thanks to the growing popularity of “natural” wines. But Pet Nat is one of the wine world’s oldest categories, a true accidental creation. It is a sparkling wine made from the ancestral method of bottling the wine prior to the completion of fermentation. This traps the last bit of carbon dioxide from that process making for a lightly fizzy wine, and it can sometimes be slightly sweet, and often is cloudy. Annie Edgerton, DWSET, adores Pet Nat, and calls it her favorite “breakfast wine,” as it is light, charming, slightly savory, and frequently fascinating. Come join her for a journey through this happy accident, and explore the range of styles and grape varieties, resulting in floral to fruity to pleasantly funky wines. Sure to put a smile on your face, these wines have charm galore.

Please note the unusual date for this class: We hope you can join us on Thursday, April 17 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this special event! Get tickets now.

Tuesday, April 22: Dispatch from South Africa (taught by Julia Burke, DWSET)

Julia's passion for South Africa is no secret, but she has a particular case to make for this amazing wine region: it's one of the best places in the world to find wineries engaged in amazing social and environmental initiatives. South Africa's brands don't just make wine worth supporting––they also make wine that will take your summer grilling, entertaining and date nights to the next level. And fresh off a recent trip to the Western Cape, Julia will share the latest trends and insights straight from some of the country's best winemakers.

This class will begin at 6:00pm on Tuesday, April 22 and run for approximately 90 minutes as we taste five wines. Wines discussed in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited. Get tickets now.

Picture-Perfect Terroir: Two Single-Vineyard Rossese from Liguria

Picture-Perfect Terroir: Two Single-Vineyard Rossese from Liguria

Regions like Burgundy and the Mosel are by-words for terroir. Part of the thrill of discovering those regions is exploring the subtle shifts in a wine that tiny changes in soil, slope, and exposure can make. But Burgundy and the Mosel don’t have a monopoly on that sort of terroir magic, as Giovanna Maccario’s two Rossese wines prove.

Camus-Bruchon's Limestone-Laden Pinot: A Rare Bargain in Burgundy

Chorey-lès-Beaune is a classic insiders village. A bit overshadowed by the more famous terroirs in Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune, the wines in Chorey just don’t get enough love. Which makes no sense! The vineyards in Chorey are loaded with limestone, and a great vigneron can make wines of great depth, poise, and elegance.
