Foradori’s Fontanasanta Nosiola is one of the most distinctive white wines of northern Italy, reviving the nearly forgotten Nosiola grape through meticulous organic farming and amphora aging. Unlike typical crisp, fruit-forward whites, Fontanasanta is about texture, minerality, and quiet complexity, shaped by extended skin contact and the unique terroir of the Dolomites. The 2023 vintage continues the wine’s legacy of elegance and depth, making it an essential reference point for serious lovers of Alpine wines.

Subtle aromas of pear skin, green almond, and lemon peel give way to layers of dried herbs, crushed stone, and a faint hazelnut note, a signature of aged Nosiola. The palate is taut and structured, with fine-grained tannins from skin contact adding depth without heaviness. Compared to Foradori’s powerful Teroldego reds, Fontanasanta is more understated, yet it carries the same intensity of place, making it a singularly compelling wine.

A natural pairing for river fish, Alpine cheeses, or delicate vegetable dishes, this 2023 Fontanasanta will reward both early drinking and patience. While fresh and vibrant now, it has the complexity to develop over the next 5–10 years, revealing even more layers of its unique Dolomite character.

Elisabetta Foradori has been a darling of the natural wine movement and a champion of Trentino for decades. She has adopted many ancient wine making techniques, but always strives for balanced, clean and long lived expressions of her native varieties.

A champion of Biodynamics, selection massale, experimentation and the natural wine movement, Elisabetta and her children have been making strides in Trentino. Their slice of heaven is known as the Campo Rotaliano, a 400 acre flood plain formed by the the rivers Adige and Noce bordered on its three sides by sheer rock faces. The ultra-draining soil is a an alluvial conglomeration of mineral rich rocks and silt from all over the Alps. It is the spell that unlocks the magic in her favorite grape, Teroldego. Once thought an insipid wine for early drinking, Elisabetta and others have now proven it to be as intense and long lived as the rest of the world's finest red wines.

Professional Reviews

Wine Spectator

WS 93
"Exotic accents of dried mint and cardamom draw you into the glass of this vivid white with raw silk-like texture. It's well-meshed and expansive on the palate, offering an overtone of blood orange along with flavors of raspberry, plum skin, mountain herb and graphite."

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

100% Nosiola. Foradori works 2 hectares of this ancient local variety in the Fontanasanta vineyard at about 400 meters above the city of Trento, a few miles down valley from the Foradori estate in Mezzolombardo. The vines are on clay-limestone soils, lower on the hills than the Manzoni Bianco vines that the Foradoris also tend here. The farming is organic. The bunches are harvested by hand and destemmed. The grapes go directly into clay amphorae or tinajas (from J. Padella in Spain), where they ferment spontaneously and macerate for 6 to 8 months. The wine then spends a brief period in used acacia barrels. It is bottled without fining or filtering and with the wine's only small dose of sulfur. Like all Foradori wines, the wine is classified as IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti.
