Santorini’s Assyrtiko vines are some of the oldest and most resilient in the world—own-rooted, dry-farmed, and trained low in traditional kouloura baskets to withstand the Aegean winds. Koutsoyannopoulos, a family estate with deep local roots, honors this heritage with a clean, precise style that lets the terroir shine.

The 2022 vintage is electric. There’s citrus and green apple at the core, but it’s the structure and mineral backbone that dominate: crushed rock, sea spray, and a touch of smoke from the island’s volcanic soils. Fermented in stainless steel with no oak, it’s tightly wound now, but built to evolve beautifully over 5–10 years.

Perfect with grilled octopus, lemony seafood, or feta-stuffed vegetables, but also stunning on its own for lovers of crisp, age-worthy whites. For fans of Chablis, Etna Bianco, or other salt-and-stone-driven wines, Koutsoyannopoulos 2022 is a brilliant, focused example of what Assyrtiko does best.

Koutsoyannopoulos' wines are crisp, but they're not simple. If you've had basic Assyrtiko in the "New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc alternative" family, put that experience out of your mind. These wines are richer, denser, still refreshing, but much more interesting and haute-cuisine worthy.
