Racines is a collaboration between Burgundian legends Étienne de Montille and Brian Sieve and California winemaking talent Justin Willett, bringing Old World precision to the Santa Rita Hills. Sourced from the windswept Bentrock Vineyard, one of the region’s most prized sites, this Chardonnay reflects the cool-climate intensity and marine influence of its terroir. The 2021 vintage, shaped by a long, even growing season, offers a stunning balance of ripeness and structure.

Taut lemon curd, green apple, and crushed seashells define the nose, with hints of hazelnut and flint emerging with air. The palate is sleek yet deeply textured, walking the line between racy acidity and quiet richness. With its Chablis-like minerality and measured depth, this is a Chardonnay that will reward both early drinking and cellaring. A natural match for fresh seafood, roasted poultry, or anything kissed by butter and salt.

"The 2021 Chardonnay Bentrock Vineyard is another stellar wine in this range from Racines. Deep mineral veins drive through a core of citrus fruit in this exquisite, vibrant Chardonnay. Citrus peel, white flowers and graphite linger. "

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

VineyardFrom the quickly becoming famous plantings to the western end of Santa Rosa Road, Racines is lucky to work with two parcels of Chardonnay from the Bentrock vineyard. Both north facing, the first sits atop the vineyard looking out over the Sta. Rita Hills on very rocky soils, in an extremely exposed and windy perch. The second, a little lower and with more soil, sits just to the east and is protected by the hilltop the other piece sits on.SoilSanta Lucia shaly clay loam, Tierra sandy loamViticultureFarmed using organic methodsVinificationThe wines were fermented in a combination of 500L puncheons, 350L barrels and 228L barriques, resulting in about 25% new oak on the wine. After just under a year in barrel, the wines and all the lees were moved to tank for an additional six months of cellaring.Fermented using all native yeatsAging18 months total with 11 months in Frech, oak barrels (25% new) and 7 months in tank
