2023 Roland Lavantureux Chablis

"success is not really down to specific techniques but whether or not a producer has that magic touch, which Arnaud undoubtedly has.

--Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com

Kermit Lynch is shipping us our allocation of 2023 Lavantureux Chablis, and we couldn't be more excited to give you a preview.

The wines are going to be great. It's hard to imagine higher praise than a "magic touch," but Jasper uses other superlatives including the best (the Lavantureux brothers' 2023s is "the best Vau de Vey on the market") and spectacular (the Vauprin).

Coming from no less an authority than Jasper Morris, a man who literally wrote the book on Burgundy, it tells us everything we need to know about how Roland's sons, David and Arnaud (who makes the wines), are doing.

And to be clear, Jasper's praise isn't just for those two wines. He also says that that they are "a top source for Petit Chablis and Chablis," and raves about their 2023s which "have a concentration of fruit and structure while maintained a clear Chablisian mineral undercurrent."

So, if you love Chablis (or white Burgundy in general) don't look only to those two wines. We don't have very much of them (or any of the wines, to be honest) and the whole range is worth your while, garnering 4- and 5-* reviews from Jasper.

Indeed, while Kermit Lynch may have became famous for importing superstars like Raveneau, it's this kind of still reasonably affordable grower that we get in large enough enough quantity to be able to offer by email with special discounts. But they expire at the end of the day Wednesday (or when sold out) so please don't wait to click through below and grab your bottles. No discount code is necessary: for the best pricing just add any 6 bottles from this offer to your cart!

Domaine Roland Lavantureux, Petit Chablis, 2023 $39.99 $35.99 or $34.20 on 6+ Lavantureux wines
"Attractive mid yellow. The fruit leaps out of the glass, plums and pears, riotously enjoyable. Just enough acidity but this is a wine to enjoy young. All his 2023s are fatter in the middle and he loves them." (JM: Drink from 2024-2026. Tasted Jul 2024.) (****))

Domaine Roland Lavantureux, Chablis Vieilles Vignes, 2019 $54.99 $49.99 or $47.50
"Paler in colour, more chiselled on the nose, a touch of lime juice, much cooler in style. Clear white fruit, really compact, correct acidity, tight enough to show good ageing capacity." (JM: Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted Jul 2024.) (****)

Domaine Roland Lavantureux, Chablis Vauprin, 2019 $64.99  $58.99 or $56.05
"And yet again the nose takes us to a different register. The colour has a fraction more depth too. Wonderful weight to this, fresh pears slightly more than apples, just a harmonious balance all the way through, and exceptional length. Arnaud is deliberately holding this back so it will explode even further later." (JM: Drink from 2027-2034.) Tasted Jul 2024. (*****)

Domaine Roland Lavantureux, Chablis Beauroy 1er Cru, 2019 $79.99 $71.99 or $68.40
"Notably paler in colour, perhaps a fractional pyrazine note. Fine and elegant white fruit. Breadth maybe, more than weight. Clean white fruit with a few stones cutting through the flesh. Fine persistence." (JM Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Jul 2024.) (****)

Domaine Roland Lavantureux, Chablis Vau de Vey 1er Cru, 2019 $79.99 $71.99 or $68.40
"The steep slope and altitude have successfully kept this very fresh in 2023. Arnaud is getting very excited! There is certainly a huge amount on the nose. The 2023 Vau de Vey still has the typical grass of this vineyard but now with a fine stony thread too. A little lemongrass behind. This is a beautiful example of a 1er Cru which is coming into its own. Impeccable balance and length." (JM: Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted Jul 2024.) (*****)

Domaine Roland LavantureuxChablis Bougros Grand Cru, 2019 $159.99 $143.99 or $136.79

"Pale lemon in colour. A powerful well-muscled nose with a touch of pyrazine – more of a faint reduction really. This absolutely shows its grand cru weight, and there is a little citrus but it is on the bulky side, though balanced." (JM:Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted Jul 2024.) (****)

Domaine Roland LavantureuxChablis Vaudesir Grand Cru, 2019 $159.99 $143.99 or $136.79

"Pale lemon colour. As last year, the bouquet of the Vaudésir shows altogether more finesse than the Bougros. In fact, the nose is becoming rapidly more exciting. A central core of really intense white fruit, stones, a light lemon rinse but it is the white orchard fruit which dominates, impressively." (JM: Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted Jul 2024.) (****)
