Wine Resolutions for 2025 and Beyond

These first few days of the new year, we all have New Year’s resolutions in mind. But not every resolution has to involve a gym membership, or a new diet, or taking up a new hobby — your resolution could be as simple as broadening your wine-drinking horizons. We’ve put together a little primer to help you do just that.

We were inspired by Lettie Teague’s recent Wall Street Journal article to rethink our approach to wine in 2025 (and beyond). We were especially thrilled to read her praise for our educational program, consisting of a wide range of seminars, classes, and tastings led by winemakers, industry professionals, and our very own, highly-qualified educators.

We've borrowed Lettie's format for 2025 resolutions and selected our favorite wines to help you prepare for a thrilling 2025. Click the buttons below to shop the various collections and take 15% off all wines, no discount code necessary. The discount will appear once you add a bottle to your cart.

1. Focus more on overlooked wines, producers and regions.

New York State is one of the US’s most prolific wine regions, and even though the Finger Lakes or Long Island basically serve as NYC’s backyard, we still regularly opt for bottles from California or Oregon (or Europe). And so, in addition to selections from unexpected wine regions like Virginia or South Carolina, we’re going all in on wines from the Empire State.

2. Visit an under-the-radar American wine region.

A staff trip to several Long Island vineyards a few years back proved that we have a treasure trove just an hour or two away. Whether you’re driving or taking the train, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to wineries to visit. And beyond Long Island, there are so many incredible AVAs (American Viticultural Areas, the American appellation system) in NJ, PA, VT — there are hardworking and passionate winemakers in each of the 50 states.

3. Revisit a famous wine region.

Lettie talks about visiting regions like Burgundy, Champagne, or Tuscany, which are  bucket-list destinations for most wine lovers. But what if you can’t get away? We are here to help with a staycation-style deep dive into whichever famous region makes your heart flutter.

The most difficult choice you’ll make is deciding which famous wine region to delve into! There are still incredible values to be found in places like Rioja or the Loire Valley; in countries like Portugal and Hungary (which both claim the oldest legally designated appellation rules, for Port and Tokaji respectively), you can find extraordinary wines from some of the most talented vignerons for a fraction of the price of a top-tier Burgundy or Champagne.

4. Enroll in an in-person wine class.

We are so grateful for the callout Lettie gave our education program in this article. We have to say, we’re very proud of the program! With a variety of classes, seminars, guided tastings and more casual walk around events, our aim is a dovetailing of fun and education. We are constantly adding new events to our calendar — click the buttons below to stay in the loop!

5. Buy fewer bottles of Chablis.

We love Chablis, but we will allow that there are plenty of other fantastic white wines to enjoy. Check out the collection of mineral-driven white wines (from France and beyond) to act as alternatives to the Chablis you know and love. Varieties like Albariño, Melon de Bourgogne, Pecorino and Carricante scratch the same itch as Chablis. Best of all? Unlike Chablis — which, along with Burgundy in general — prices have stayed relatively constant. There are affordable gems in spades here.
