A Can't-Miss Old-Vine Red Burg: Camus-Bruchon's Savigny-lès-Beaune
“As to the wines, they're certainly ripe but attractively fresh. Moreover, they should be approachable young but have no trouble successfully aging too."
—Guillaume Camus in Burghound
“ I agree with Camus' take that his wines should drink well young but have no trouble rewarding mid-term keeping.”
—Allen Meadows, Burghound
Camus-Bruchon's 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune "Aux Grands Liards Vieilles Vignes," shows how beautifully old vines translate classic terroir and Guillaume Camus did an exemplary job letting his vines sing in 2022. Despite the heat and stress of the vintage, he has managed to capture wines with incredible precision and balance with generous, juicy ripe fruit balanced with unstoppable freshness and lift.
Guillaume is first and foremost a vineyard guy. The bulk of his family parcels were planted by his great great grandmother around World War I. While the men were away at the front, she focused her energy on planting vineyards. Today, Guillaume understands that maintaining these vines is an honor and profound responsibility. They are his family’s legacy.
To best capture the character of these ancient vines, Guillame employs a delicate touch in the cellar. He uses around 30% whole clusters to give the wines extra energy and lift. Along with the natural sappy concentration of old vine fruit, you’ve got a magical combination.
