Jean-Claude Chanudet took over this 4-hectare Morgon estate in 1989, becoming an early adopter of natural winemaking under the influence of Marcel Lapierre. Working organically with vines ranging from 60-90 years old across parcels in Grands Cras, Le Colombien, and Château Gaillard, Chamonard represents authentic low-intervention Beaujolais. The wines see carbonic maceration followed by aging in a mix of foudres, fûts, and stainless steel—no temperature control, no additions. Morgon's distinctive "roche pourrie" (decomposing granite and schist) gives structure that rivals Burgundy. The 2013, from a temperate vintage, is now in its prime drinking window with soft tannins and developed aromatics. Serve slightly cool around 14-15°C with a brief decant.
