What is this wine?
Poderi Boscarelli is one of the historic and most respected producers in Montepulciano, Tuscany. Founded in the 1960s and still family-run, the estate focuses on traditional expressions of Prugnolo Gentile (the local clone of Sangiovese). Their Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is the flagship wine, blending mostly Prugnolo Gentile with small portions of Canaiolo, Colorino, or Mammolo depending on the vintage. Aged in large oak casks, it reflects the balance and elegance of the appellation.
Why get this wine?
Boscarelli is widely considered a benchmark for Vino Nobile, delivering wines of finesse, authenticity, and aging potential. In a region sometimes overshadowed by Chianti Classico and Brunello, this bottle shows why Montepulciano deserves equal attention. The 2021 vintage is excellent, combining richness with freshness—an ideal introduction to one of Tuscany’s noble reds.
What does this wine taste like?
Medium to full-bodied, with red cherry, plum, and violet notes layered over hints of tobacco, spice, and earthy minerality. Fine tannins and lively acidity give structure and elegance, with a long, savory finish.
When should you drink this wine?
Delicious now with Tuscan fare—bistecca, wild boar ragù, or aged pecorino—but it will also evolve beautifully over the next 8–12 years. Decant young bottles for an hour to soften and open up the aromatics.
