What is this wine?
Oddero, one of Barolo’s historic and respected families, has extended its expertise beyond Nebbiolo into white wines from Piedmont. This bottling is 100% Timorasso, the once nearly extinct grape from the Colli Tortonesi hills in southeastern Piedmont, now revived and celebrated under the name Derthona. Monlia is Oddero’s take on this noble white, made with the same care and precision that define their Barolo.

Why get this wine?
Timorasso is widely considered Piedmont’s most serious white grape, often compared to white Burgundy for its structure and aging ability. With Oddero behind it, this bottle combines the pedigree of a top Barolo estate with the excitement of a reborn grape variety. It’s both rare and ageworthy, making it an excellent buy for adventurous drinkers and collectors alike.

What does this wine taste like?
Textured and complex, with layers of pear, quince, and citrus supported by notes of honey, almond, and herbs. A mineral backbone and firm acidity give the wine freshness and longevity, while a touch of salinity lingers on the finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Enjoy now for its vibrant fruit, or cellar 5–10 years to develop richer, nutty complexity. Perfect with risotto, white meats, aged cheeses, or mushroom dishes.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 90
"The Oddero 2022 Colli Tortonesi Timorasso Derthona Monlià is a mildly creamy white with aromas of peach cobbler and apple pie. The wine offers a smooth and substantial texture that will evolve in time to show elegant aromas of flint and crushed stone. In truth, the wine is a collaboration between Oddero and the restaurant More e Macine in La Morra. They operate under the name Monlià to make these 7,000 bottles." -Monica Larner
