Second Bite at the Apple: Picq Chablis 2022s

It is rare to find a villages-level delivering this level of quality and it is highly recommended, plus it should repay even extended keeping. Buy it.
-Allan Meadows on Picq's 2022 Dessus la Carriere
Dear Friends,
First, the good news: long-time Flatiron Favorite Domaine Gilbert Picq has sent us another drop of their beautiful 2022 village-level Chablis. Both the straight Chablis and the Dessus la Carriere (a step-up cuvee from two parcels above an old limestone quarry). These are quintessential Chablis, just entering their prime drinking windows (though the Carriere in particular will keep improving in a cool cellar).
Unfortunately, there is bad news too. The Picq family released these wines because 2024 is such a short vintage. When those '24s start to land next year, we expect to get much less wine than usual (thanks to hail, frost, the works). Even there however, we have a silver lining: what wine there is in '24 is supposed to be great.
Now, if you're new to these newsletters, you might not know what all the fuss is about. The TL;DR is that the Picq family is among Chablis' great producers -- but one that has no grand cru vineyards, no blockbuster collectibles, and that therefore has stayed outside the field of vision of international collectors.
But Picq is our kind of Chablis: kimmeridgian limestone sites harvested by hand, vinified on the native yeasts, and both fermented and aged in steel. They have the classic minerality, fine aromatics, deliciously high-toned fruit, length and salinity. It is traditional, family-made white Burgundy at its best.
I'm thrilled to be able to share these wines with you here, and with discounts that are good till the end of the day Thursday.
