Bitouzet-Prieur’s Santenots comes from a steep, limestone-heavy slope on the Volnay border. Though better known for reds, this site yields bold, mineral-rich Chardonnay. Fermented with native yeasts and aged 16 months in 25% new oak, the 2022 shows both muscle and finesse.

Broader than the domaine’s other Meursaults, it delivers spice, stone, and yellow fruit in a textured frame. A powerful, age-worthy white from an underrated premier cru site.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"The 2022 Meursault Santenots 1er Cru has a complex nose: yellow fruit, spice box, touches of fennel and crushed stone, all coming through with aeration. The palate is very well-balanced with good weight - a lovely creamy texture whilst retaining tension. More open than other cuvées and persistent in the mouth, this is a well-crafted and delicious Meursault." -Neal Martin

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

This unique premier cru sits right on the border of Meursault and Volnay; white wines from here are labeled Meursault, and red wines Volnay, and Francois owns a fifth of a hectare of Chardonnay in the steep Santenots-Blanc climat, planted in the early 1970s. The plot’s soils of Bathonian limestone and brown scree produce a broad, powerful wine that combines rich body and punchy minerality in an impressively dynamic whole. This passes 16 months in about one-quarter new barrels before bottling.
