Giacomo Fenocchio is a master of traditional Barolo, crafting wines with transparency and precision. His Bussia bottling comes from one of Barolo’s most prestigious crus, known for its iron-rich soils that lend both power and complexity. The 2020 vintage, marked by balance and freshness, highlights the vineyard’s signature structure while allowing the fruit to shine.

Red cherry, raspberry, and dried rose petals lead, layered with licorice, tobacco, and a hint of crushed stone. The palate is firm yet elegant, with gripping tannins that promise decades of evolution. While this Barolo will reward patience, a long decant will reveal its depth even now. A perfect pairing for braised meats, truffle dishes, or simply an evening dedicated to appreciating the timeless beauty of Nebbiolo.

Claudio Fenocchio (son of Giacomo) is one of those unsung heroes who makes traditionally-styled Barolo but remains in the shadows of the superstars like Rinaldi or Mascarello. He is just as dedicated to his farming and he makes wine in the same non-interventionist fashion, aging his wines entirely in large Slavonian casks.

What stands out about Fenocchio is his terroir precision. Unlike Bartolo Mascarello, where Maria Teresa blends all her grapes into a single Barolo cuvée, Fenocchio likes to produce cru-specific wines. Tasting through his line-up, we are always stunned at how the characteristic of each vineyard jumps out.
