Among the first producers to bottle Barolo commercially—and official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy. G.B. Burlotto's history dates to 1850, when Commendatore Giovan Battista Burlotto established this Verduno estate. Monvigliero is often called "the Grand Cru of Burgundy in Barolo" for its unmistakable elegance—fine, delicate, ethereal rather than powerful. The 2008 comes from foot-crushed, 100% whole-cluster fermented Nebbiolo on Marne di Sant'Agata soils (55% clay, 30% sand, 15% limestone). Strawberries, cherries, garrigue, game birds, oregano, cedar, rose petals. Suave tannins, rock-solid core, very long finish. Drinking window: 2020-2060. Historic pedigree, transcendent terroir.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2008 Barolo Vigneto Monvigliero hits the palate with a burst of sweet red berries, herbs and fresh flowers. The 2008 shows excellent weight and palate presence, but the intense high-toned, herbal notes that are the result of 100% whole-cluster fermentation dominate the wine's balance. Diehard Burlotto fans will probably flock to the Monvigliero, but in my view 2008 was a very tricky vintage for whole-cluster fermentation." -Antonio Galloni
