Claudio Fenocchio (son of Giacomo) is one of those unsung heroes who makes traditionally-styled Barolo but remains in the shadows of the superstars like Rinaldi or Mascarello. He is just as dedicated to his farming and he makes wine in the same non-interventionist fashion, aging his wines entirely in large Slavonian casks. What stands out about Fenocchio is his terroir precision. Unlike Bartolo Mascarello, where Maria Teresa blends all her grapes into a single Barolo cuvée, Fenocchio likes to produce cru-specific wines. Tasting through his line-up, we are always stunned at how the characteristic of each vineyard jumps out.
