Keller is, without a doubt, the Rheinhessen’s greatest address – and one of the most beloved in all of Germany. Their fame can be traced to their culty (and sometimes wildly expensive) dry Rieslings, culled from limestone-dominated soils, which critics have compared to the great Grand Crus of Burgundy for their power and precision.

Decanter

D 99
"The Morstein's heavy clay soils over limestone rock typically make for more powerful Rieslings with deep minerality, and 2015 is no exception. A brooding, reserved bouquet of caramelised lemon, wet stones and white flowers is followed by a massively textural, powerful wine underpinned by equally pronounced but and minerality. While this is the largest-scaled of Keller's Grosses Gewächs, it's no less weightlessly elegant."

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
