Daniel Bouland is one of Beaujolais’ most respected traditionalists, working with old vines and minimal intervention to craft Gamay that’s structured, soulful, and age-worthy. His “Corcelette Sable” Vieilles Vignes is sourced from a parcel of 50–70-year-old vines planted in the sandy soils of the Corcelette climat, one of Morgon’s most prized lieux-dits.

The 2023 vintage, while young, already shows Bouland’s hallmark style: semi-carbonic maceration, native yeast fermentation, and aging in large old foudres with no new oak. The result is a wine that’s fragrant and lifted, showing crushed raspberry, violet, red currant, and a whisper of crushed stone.

“Sable” is the most delicate and aromatic of Bouland’s Morgon bottlings—less structured than his Côte du Py or Bellevue cuvées, but beautifully detailed and mineral-driven. It drinks beautifully now with a light chill but will reward short-term cellaring.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 91
"The 2023 Morgon Bellevue Sable displays aromas of baked black cherry pie, violet and a touch of coffee spice, reflecting its southeast-facing, low-yielding vineyard. On the palate, the tight-knit, sandy tannins offer a sturdy structuring, while the fruit and spice tones ascend into an airy upper register. This contrast between the grounded texture and the expansive aromatics underscores the wine's sophistication." -Kenna Wells
