Sori' Paitin Barbaresco Vecchie Vigne Riserva 2008 is a testament to the aging potential of Nebbiolo from one of the most esteemed vineyards in Piedmont. With this Riserva, Paitin showcases the beauty of old vines, bringing forth a wine that balances richness with elegance and complexity.

From the first moment, the nose is a captivating blend of dark fruit—black cherry, plum, and dried blackberry—complemented by the signature floral notes of dried rose and violet. As it unfolds, earthy undertones of tobacco, leather, and a hint of spice emerge, adding depth and intrigue. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with smooth tannins that provide a velvety texture, while the acidity brings freshness and balance. The long finish lingers with notes of dark fruit, earth, and a subtle minerality that speaks to the unique terroir of Sori' Paitin.

This Barbaresco Riserva pairs beautifully with braised meats, rich pasta dishes, or aged cheeses. While it’s drinking wonderfully now, the wine’s structure and depth suggest that it will continue to evolve over the next decade, developing even more layers of complexity with time. A true expression of Barbaresco, this wine is an extraordinary example of the potential of Nebbiolo and the artistry of Paitin.

A recent visit to the Paitin estate in Neive was full of delicious wines and fascinating history. The Pasquero-Elia family has been working these vineyards since 1796, and bottling the wines as Barbaresco for more than a century, even before their village officially joined Barbaresco. Three generations of the family are at work today in the vineyards and cellar, working organically and crafting Nebbiolo wines with equal power and grace.

"The blackest of cherries, spices, incense, tar and scorched earth are some of the many nuances that emerge from the 2008 Barbaresco Sori’ Paitin Vecchie Vigne. This dark, brooding Barbaresco is all about power. The 2008 impresses for its fabulous balance and pure length. With time in the glass, the wine becomes increasingly more refined. It is a striking Barbaresco to drink now and over the next 10-15 years, perhaps longer. The 2008 was aged in 25-hectoliter cask and bottled in June 2012." -Robert Parker

"Starts out rich and round, boasting cherry and currant flavors, then firms up as more spice and eucalyptus notes show. The tannins offer grip as this cruises to a long finish. Balances power and elegance. "
