"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Casanovina Montosoli captures the imagination, blending savoury herbs with fresh mint, dusty black cherry and camphor. On the palate it is pure elegance, silky-smooth and supple with cool red fruits accompanied by salty minerals, while cloves mingle with orange nuances towards the end. The finish is surprisingly fresh yet youthfully balanced. The angular tannins provide a crisp feel, leaving subtle traces of rose petals and a hint of worn leather. This harmonious beauty will give pleasure for decades to come, but patience is required."

"The Le Ragnaie 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Casanovina Montosoli has a medium concentration and beautiful aromas of cherries, redcurrants, minerals, watercolours and an overall riper bouquet, at least compared to the Passo del Lume Spento. These vines grow at an altitude of 300 metres on mixed clay soils near Baricci. It is more powerful and has a spicy component with leather or mild tobacco, which changes over time and eventually turns into a certain sweetness. Structurally, this is a very beautiful wine."

"Straight, medium ruby red colour with a light rim. Elevated, sweetly perfumed and of great purity. Still very compact and backward, but at the same time supple and rich in finely milled tannins. Still a little embryonic, but spectacularly balanced."

"From a prime, east-facing parcel on Montosoli’s limestone rich, slatey soil, Casanovina was planted in 1999 and acquired by Le Ragnaie in 2014. Innate breeding oozes from the 2019: gracious and becoming, if not overt. Lifted violet and lavender blossom scents slowly emerge before a trace of sweet damp earth lends a grounding character. This expands over the palate with a generosity of fruit hemmed in by powdery tannins. While imposing at first, they yield supplely. Finishes with succulent, stony minerals. Exciting."
