"From vines planted in 1990 southeast of McMinnville, the Ayoub 2011 Pinot Noir Meredith Mitchell Vineyard (of which a by his standards generous 330 cases were bottled) delivers tartly bright cranberry laced with lemon zest and white pepper for a brashly concentrated projection of sheer energy. It feels as though this lean yet generously juicy Pinot is marinating and tenderizing my tongue even in the time it takes me to taste it. To be sure, this is extreme stuff. But it finishes with a degree of vibrancy and sheer refreshment – if allied to severity – that tempts me to think of it as red Riesling. This is going to be totally fascinating to follow, but it’s definitely anybody’s guess for how long. (Its author isn’t prepared to prognosticate and neither am I, so I’d be very skeptical of anybody who claims clairvoyance.)" -David Schildknecht
