Domaine Pinson Frères has one of Chablis's longest histories—growing grapes and making wine since 1640, among the first to bottle wines for public sale in the 1880s. The domaine holds four parcels in Grand Cru Les Clos, making two different cuvées. This single-vineyard expression is 100% Chardonnay aged in Kimmeridgian limestone soils—the mineral foundation of Chablis.

The 2014 Les Clos shows rich, firm, concentrated character with grip and minerality—austere but complex and persistent. At 12 years old, the wine displays exotic bouquet with peach skin and nectarine notes, and a rounded, sensual palate entry with keen acidity and gorgeous white peach, dried mango, and spicy notes on a long, powerful finish. The wine should age with style over 10-15 more years—a very fine, quite sophisticated expression of one of Burgundy's greatest white wine sites. The Kimmeridgian soils create the distinctive mineral character. This is a wine for serious white Burgundy lovers.

"Not surprisingly at only 7 years of age, this still closely resembles the wine in 750 ml except that it's a bit more backward though not so much that it couldn't be enjoyed even in the larger format. The note from 750 ml is: The wood this once showed is now almost completely absorbed and more easily reveals pretty aromas of pear, apple, white flowers and an abundance of classic Chablis elements. The racy and powerful flavors coat the mouth with dry extract on the impressively long, balanced and stony finale where a hint of bitter lemon adds a hint of austerity. This is terrific and still quite young and a wine that should hold for several decades. In a word, marvelous."

"Bright yellow. Yeasty baked bread and rocky calcaire dominate the nose. Dense, full and energetic; fat and silky for the vintage but classically dry and stony. Subtle notes of pineapple and flowers add complexity. Best today on the subtle, slowly mounting back end, which spreads out to saturate the palate with liquid stone. Not yet especially demonstrative but, with its penetrating stony minerality, this wine is built for a long life in bottle." —Stephen Tanzer

"Scented and substantial. Sleek and satiny. Masses of acidity. All tucked in for the future."

Decanter

"Reticent citrus and green pea nose. Rich, firm, and concentrated, with grip and minerality. It's austere, as one would expect from a young Le Clos, but it's also complex and persistent. An imposing, classic Grand Cru Chablis."
