Positioned adjacent to the celebrated Clos des Mouches in Beaune, Clos des Aigrots is a premier cru whose clay-limestone soils over hard bedrock produce Pinot Noir of quiet depth. The forty-year-old vines are Guyot-pruned and hand-harvested, with rigorous selection at both vine and sorting table. After light crushing and destemming—with a small percentage of whole clusters retained depending on the vintage—the wine undergoes cold maceration, controlled fermentation, and aging in French oak. The 2018 vintage brought favorable ripeness across Burgundy, and this wine captures that generosity: dark cherry, baking chocolate, and rich earth on a medium-to-full-bodied frame with powdery, fine-grained tannins. A Beaune premier cru that delivers elegance and complexity at a fraction of the Côte de Nuits price.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 91
"The 2018 Beaune Les Aigrots 1er Cru offers vivid raspberry and crushed strawberry scents on the nose, showing more joie-de-vivre compared to some of Girardin’s grander cuvées in this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, vibrant black fruit laced with a light ash-like tincture. Nicely focused with an energetic finish, this is a fine Aigrots from Girardin." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

RP 90
"Aromas of dark cherries, baking chocolate and rich soil tones introduce the 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine with an ample core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins. This will offer a broad drinking window." -William Kelley

Wine Spectator

WS 92
"This is open and fluid, with juicy blackberry and black currant fruit setting the pace. Firms up on the finish, where the lively acidity emerges along with an earthy note and well-integrated tannins. Drink now."

Wine Enthusiast

WE 91
"Notes of ripe cherry are redolent on this wine's nose, with a faint hint of Amarena. 2018's ripeness is expresssed by generosity, showcasing ripe, luscious cherries galore. Freshness at the core ensures juiciness while supple tannins round everything out."
