Jerome Dehours is from an old Champagne family and he decided to go "Grower" around 1996, long before the term was known here in the U.S. It took years of gradually transforming his domaine, selling less of his grapes off every year, as he introduced radically improved techniques in the vine and in the cellar. All this is great news for us, because he now produces brilliant Pinot Meunier-based Champagnes from an obscure corner of Champagne south of the Marne known as the Vallee de Fagot, where the soil is dominated by limestone from fossilized marine animals. He is working in an increasingly natural approach; he no longer blocks malos and has moved towards using only trace amounts of sulphur.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
