Saint Aubin is one of our favorite places on the Côte de Beaune. It is an overachiever. that can be described as the wine that wants to be Puligny-Montrachet when it grows up. There is a dramatic amphitheater of vines in this place of steep hillside vineyards rich with limestone. It sits on the "wrong" side of the hill of Montrachet and shares soil types with the most famous white wine vineyard in the world. It could be the best value in Côte de Beaune White Burgundy.

The Larue domaine is in the confusingly-named hamlet of Gamay, just over the hill from Chassagne-Montrachet. You could say things like some of the best Chardonnay comes from Gamay and further confound people. The Larue's are doing things the right way with intense attention to detail. Severe pruning, plowed vineyards, low yields, hand harvesting in small bins, careful vinification in a new cuverie, and elevage in their cold cellar with a maximum of 25% new wood for the whites—there are no compromises at this property.
