Dr. Bürklin-Wolf’s “Forst” Trocken 2022 is a dry, village-designated Riesling that highlights the character of the famed Forst vineyards—including some of the estate’s G.C. (Grand Cru) holdings like Pechstein, Ungeheuer, and Jesuitengarten. Made with the estate’s usual focus on biodynamic farming and spontaneous fermentation, this bottling channels the purity and mineral complexity of those sites into a more immediately drinkable wine.

The 2022 vintage shows notes of lime, green apple, flint, and white flowers, with crisp acidity and a clean, dry finish. There's a subtle smokiness and a textured mid-palate that hint at the grander parcels nearby.

Perfect as an aperitif or paired with light seafood, vegetable dishes, or sushi, this is a smart buy for anyone who wants true terroir transparency without the price tag of a G.C. label.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2022 Riesling Forst Village is picked half in the Jesuitengarten and half Pechstein, of six to eight-year-old vines. It charms immediately with green Seville orange and tangerine. There is an inner density, lovely fluidity and concentration, and again, that exquisite dryness and tension, but the acidity is more of a buffer and supple here." -Anne Krebiehl MW

Robert Parker

RP 93
"From eight-year-old vines planted in high density (8,000 vines per hectare) in the Pechstein and the Jesuitengarten grands crus, the golden-yellow 2022 Forst Village shows a deep, intense and refined bouquet with a very distinctive smoky/flinty note of basalt, firestone and sulfur spring. On the palate, this is a very elegant, saline and mineral, highly expressive Forster Riesling with a very fine and gentle acidity and a lovely and persistent mineral freshness with lingering salinity and fine bitterness. This is a remarkably fine and age-worthy wine that was bottled with six grams per liter of total acidity and a 3.0 pH. 12% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted at the domaine in November 2023." -Stephan Reinhardt

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
