The Forey Père et Fils Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2021 is a striking example of the power and complexity that defines this historic vineyard. Clos Vougeot, a Grand Cru steeped in Burgundian heritage, is renowned for its ability to produce wines of grandeur and nuance. Régis Forey, the fourth generation at the helm of Forey Père et Fils, employs traditional methods and a deep respect for terroir, resulting in wines that faithfully reflect the unique characteristics of their origins. The 2021 vintage, marked by cooler conditions, produced wines of remarkable elegance, vibrancy, and clarity.

On the nose, this Clos Vougeot presents an intricate bouquet of blackberries, black cherries, and red plums, complemented by floral notes of violets and hints of savory herbs. Subtle layers of spice, earth, and cedar contribute to its aromatic depth. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with firm yet fine-grained tannins and a refreshing acidity that adds lift and precision. The wine’s mineral-driven backbone and persistent finish underscore the unique qualities of its limestone-rich terroir.

This wine is a natural pairing for dishes such as roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or wild mushroom tart. While accessible in its youth with proper decanting, it will reward extended cellaring over the next 10–15 years, developing even greater complexity and refinement. The Forey Père et Fils Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2021 is a compelling representation of one of Burgundy’s most storied vineyards, reflecting the craftsmanship and dedication of a domaine steeped in tradition.

Regis Forey makes a range of traditional, old school Pinot Noir in the heart of Vosne-Romanée. His domaine is a total of 10 hectares and includes holdings from Nuits-St-Georges to Morey-St-Denis, and include some top 1er crus in Vosne. But the wines (and Regis himself) are not flashy, and indeed they can take careful cellaring to unlock their full potential.

These are the very qualities that first drew famed importer Neal Rosenthal to the estate back in 1982. Indeed this was one of the first Burgundy producers in a portfolio that is now famous for a slew of top-notch domaines and classic wines. What drew Neal to this domaine are the same qualities that his entire portfolio exemplifies: pure, unadulterated expressions of terroir.

Burghound

BH 94
"Once again there is impressive density, volume and power to the bigger-bodied and muscular flavors that deliver excellent length and even better depth on the youthfully austere, focused and balanced finale. This is relatively refined in the context of what is typical for young Clos de Vougeot and worth a look."

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

Forey works a one-third hectare parcel in the northern part of the Montiotes Basses section of the clos. One part of the vines were planted in 1968 and another part in 1972. Forey’s version of this appellation is particularly sturdy.
