Girard Bonnet’s Champagne Recueil Extrait No. 1, 2018 is a stunning representation of single-vintage Champagne, showcasing the power and finesse of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from carefully selected vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs. This cuvée opens with an alluring nose of golden apple, ripe pear, and lemon curd, accented by floral hints of acacia and jasmine, alongside layers of brioche, toasted almond, and a touch of wet stone minerality. On the palate, it is rich and expansive, offering flavors of orchard fruits, candied citrus peel, and hazelnut, balanced by vibrant acidity and a fine, creamy mousse. The finish is long and sophisticated, with a mineral-driven clarity that lingers beautifully.

Crafted with meticulous care, Recueil Extrait No. 1 reflects Girard Bonnet’s dedication to expressing vintage character and terroir. Grapes are hand-harvested from sustainably managed vineyards and fermented with natural yeasts to preserve the purity of the fruit. Aging on lees adds depth and complexity, while the precise dosage enhances balance without overshadowing the wine’s vibrancy. The 2018 vintage, with its ideal growing conditions, contributes to the wine’s harmonious blend of ripeness and freshness.

This Champagne is an exquisite pairing for refined dishes such as seared scallops, lobster bisque, or creamy risottos with truffle. Its layered complexity and elegant structure also make it a centerpiece for celebratory occasions. Girard Bonnet’s Recueil Extrait No. 1, 2018 is a masterful cuvée that beautifully captures the artistry and precision of its origins.

Professional Reviews

Jancis Robinson

JR 17
"Smells of jasmine tea, to begin with. Silver-tip tea and peaches. Something somehow silvery about this wine: the tang of an old pewter tine, the gleam of an old sugar spoon. Green peppercorns and purslane. Green walnuts. Very unusual. Linear horizontal bitterness forms a spine and defines the finish. (TC)"

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
