Giuseppe Rinaldi's family winemaking legacy dates to the late 19th century, with the current winery established in 1918. Current proprietor "Beppe" Rinaldi revived his grandfather's blending concept upon taking over in 1992, creating two Barolo blends from six hectares. Brunate Le Coste combines the prestigious Brunate vineyard—celebrated since the 1300s with calcareous-clayey soils producing characteristic violet aromas—with the gentler Le Coste hillside parcels. This blending philosophy softens Brunate's intensity while maintaining complexity. Beppe employs balanced techniques incorporating selective innovations while respecting tradition. The 2001 is considered exceptional—one of the finest vintages of the last two decades with beautiful growing conditions. La Morra's expression (where Brunate sits) emphasizes fruit and floral aromatics. The wine shows great depth of ripe fruit with lively acidity and robust tannins. Aging potential is extraordinary—continued maturation projected through two more decades. Currently at beautiful secondary maturity.

Antonio Galloni

95 points

"The 2001 Barolo Brunate is in a good place today, as the bouquet is expressive and the tannins have begun to melt away. A brooding, somewhat rustic, and austere Barolo, the 2001 delivers plenty of Rinaldi character but with a bit more fruit and less severe tannins than vintages like 1999 and 1996. This is a gorgeous bottle." —Antonio Galloni

Jancis Robinson

17 points

"Barolo. Medium ruby with brickstone rim. Traditional but with succulence and lightness and with a gentle structure." —Walter Speller

More about Giuseppe Rinaldi

In a region obsessed with single-vineyard expressions, Giuseppe Rinaldi remains a traditionalist purist: he blends fruit from multiple Barolo sites to capture the soul of the appellation, not the plot. Fermented with natural yeasts in his father's ancient oak tini for a month, with no temperature control, then aged in old botti for three and a half years, his Barolos are powerful, hauntingly perfumed monuments to time-honored craft.
