Leo Alzinger Jr. took over the family domaine in Unterloiben in 2002 after working with legendary winemaker Hans Günter Schwarz. He has quickly established Alzinger as a source for Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners of unparalleled subtlety and finesse. Owned parcels in two great Wachau vineyards—Loibenberg (high, exposed, producing Wachau's richest wines) and Steinertal (cooler, sheltered, renowned for restrained intensity and nuance)—are terraced with Riesling on higher primary-rock parcels and Grüner Veltliner on lower loess-rich sites. The Mühlpoint Federspiel (semi-dry classification) shows the elegance and pristine fruit Alzinger pursues: citrus, white pepper, and subtle herbs with focused acidity. Ready to drink now or age 5-8 years.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2024 Grüner Veltliner Mühlpoint Federspiel, grown on gneiss with some loam just below the Steinertal, presents gentle, smooth yeast, a touch of Conference pear and lemon on the nose. Zesty concentration defines the palate, enriched with yeast, but it is the straight zestiness—unusual for Grüner Veltliner—that stands out, with a zesty core and lovely concentration." -Anne Krebiehl, MW
