The first commercial Grüner Veltliner planted east of the Rocky Mountains—and James Suckling calls it "a stunning dry white" at 94 points. Sarah Troxell, a chemist-turned-winemaker, won Best Woman Winemaker at the 2014 International Women's Wine Competition—only the second East Coast winner ever. She and sixth-generation farmer Galen planted this Austrian variety in Pennsylvania in 2003, proving that great Grüner doesn't require the Danube. Peach, lemon, anise, and a long mineral finish. First US Grüner east of Rockies (planted 2003). James Suckling 94 pts. Winemaker won Best Woman Winemaker 2014. Pennsylvania proving ground for Austrian greatness.
