Guigal’s Côte-Rôtie “La Turque” 2018 is a benchmark of northern Rhône Syrah, sourced from a tiny vineyard in the Côte Brune, where schist soils and steep exposures produce wines of intensity and structure. Made from Syrah with a touch of Viognier, co-fermented for aromatic lift, it is aged for over three years in 100% new oak, a signature of the Guigal style.
The 2018 vintage brings blackberry, cassis, licorice, smoked meat, and floral perfume, layered over a dense, finely grained frame. The oak is present but beautifully integrated, supporting the fruit rather than overpowering it. It’s rich and expressive now with a decant, but has the depth and balance to evolve for 20+ years.
Pair with roast lamb, duck confit, or aged cheeses, or cellar it for a special occasion years down the line. This is Syrah at its most sculpted and grand, and a must-have for collectors of fine Rhône reds.
