The Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “Aux Combottes” 2020 is an exquisite wine from one of the most prestigious Premier Cru vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin. Nestled between two Grand Cru parcels, Latricières-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche, the “Aux Combottes” vineyard is uniquely positioned to produce wines of exceptional elegance and complexity. Hubert Lignier’s biodynamic practices and meticulous winemaking highlight the nuanced terroir of this site, and the 2020 vintage—with its warm days and cool nights—has yielded a wine of remarkable balance, intensity, and aging potential.

On the nose, this wine is captivating, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits—cherry, raspberry, and blackberry—interwoven with floral notes of violet and rose. Subtle hints of sweet spices, crushed stones, and forest floor add layers of complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that enhance its purity and freshness. A mineral backbone underscores the wine’s finesse, while the long, refined finish leaves an impression of precision and grace.

Bottled in a 1.5L magnum, this wine is perfectly suited for extended cellaring, allowing its intricate layers to develop and evolve over time. It pairs beautifully with dishes such as roast duck, lamb with herbed crust, or mushroom-based preparations. The Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “Aux Combottes” 2020 is a testament to both the vineyard’s unique position and Hubert Lignier’s commitment to crafting wines of extraordinary quality and authenticity. A treasure for Burgundy enthusiasts and collectors alike.

"The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes sheds a touch of youthful reduction to reveal aromas of cherries, wild berries, exotic spices, forest floor and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it displays considerable promise." -Robert Parker

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

Aux Combottes is one of the more enviably situated premier crus in the Côte de Nuits, flanked on three of its four borders by grand crus, and perched just north of Clos de la Roche on the slope. The Ligniers own a 0.15-hectare sliver of vines planted in 1957, and this wine is a perennial standout in their cellar, offering power in reserve and a chiseled structure that beckons for a bit of cellaring patience.
