Château du Hureau’s Saumur-Champigny "Tuffe" 2022 is a wine that embodies the delicate yet profound nature of Loire Valley reds. Sourced from the "Tuffe" vineyard, named for the tuffeau limestone soils that define the Saumur-Champigny region, this Cabernet Franc offers a direct connection to the land from which it springs. The vineyard’s mineral-rich soils impart a freshness and clarity to the wine, making it a perfect example of the region’s terroir-driven style.

The 2022 vintage is expressive yet graceful, with the lively red fruit character typical of Cabernet Franc—cherry and raspberry—intertwined with subtle floral and herbal notes. The wine is medium-bodied, with smooth tannins that give it structure while maintaining an elegance that’s often characteristic of the best Saumur-Champigny wines. The finish is long and mineral-driven, leaving behind a sense of purity that reflects the region’s unique soils.

"Tuffe" 2022 is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed both young and with some time in the cellar, allowing its layers of complexity to unfold. It pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or even a selection of soft cheeses. Whether you're discovering the charm of Saumur-Champigny or an experienced lover of Loire reds, this wine is a perfect representation of Cabernet Franc’s potential in this exceptional terroir.

More about Chateau du Hureau

Philippe Vatan and daughter Agathe run a fifth-generation estate tucked into the tufa limestone that borders the Loire Valley near Saumur. The Cabernet Francs are planted directly into that chalky tufa and taste like it—dark and mineral, alive with acidity, impossible to confuse with anything else. The whites are equally sharp and elegant. This is terroir speaking without softening.

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
