Marie et Vincent Tricot, Le Petit Rouge De La Cote Ouest VDF Red, 2023
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Marie and Vincent Tricot have been pioneers of natural wine in France’s Auvergne region, working with organically farmed vines on volcanic soils since the early 2000s. Their wines are zero/zero (no sulfur, no additives, no filtration), but made with precision and restraint—not funk for funk’s sake.
Le Petit Rouge de la Côte Ouest is one of their most easygoing and joyful bottlings, made from Gamay and Gamay d’Auvergne, a local variant that’s slightly more rustic and peppery. The 2023 vintage was fermented naturally with carbonic or semi-carbonic maceration, yielding a wine that’s light, fresh, and ultra-drinkable.
In the glass, it’s bright ruby with flavors of tart cherry, cranberry, wet stone, and a little white pepper. It’s low in alcohol, light in tannin, and made to be served cool, even cold, like a Beaujolais that wandered west and picked up some volcanic swagger.
A perfect bottle for summer dinners, pizza night, or natural wine fans looking for something playful and pure.
