'Les Enfers Tranquilles' (The Tranquil Hells) refers to the ancient tuffeau limestone caves where Michel Autran ages his wines—and perhaps to the quiet intensity of this still, dry Chenin Blanc. Vouvray's chalky soils impart a mineral nervosity that keeps the wine taut despite its richness. Extended aging on fine lees adds texture and complexity without masking the purity of the fruit. Expect ripe pear, quince, honeycomb, and a chalky finish that lingers. Autran's minimal-intervention approach lets the vintage and terroir speak clearly.
