Les Suchots shares fences with Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and it is the Vosne premier cru most often mistaken for something grander. Marchand-Tawse hand-harvests here, gives the fruit a short cold maceration, works the cap gently with pigeage and remontage, then ages the wine nineteen months in used barrels from the Jupilles forest and bottles it without fining or filtration. The soils are well-drained limestone and marl.  Pascal Marchand arrived in Burgundy from Quebec, made his name resurrecting Comte Armand's Clos des Épeneaux, converted Domaine de la Vougeraie to biodynamics, and has run this house with Moray Tawse since 2011, farming everything biodynamically. Give it a decade if you can; decant it for a couple of hours if you cannot.

"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru is not as opulent as the 2022. It needs a few swirls of the glass to cohere its brambly sous-bois and pressed flower notes. The palate is medium-bodied and a little peppery with sappy red fruit, a fine bead of acidity and touches of graphite toward the sustained finish. This should age well in bottle." —Neal Martin
