Marcel Juge belongs to the vanishing generation of old-school Northern Rhône legends—alongside Clape, Verset, and Trollat—who made Cornas by hand long before the appellation became fashionable. His methods are resolutely traditional: hand-harvested from steep terraced vineyards, whole-cluster fermented, foot-trod, horse-plowed, and aged eighteen to twenty-four months in old neutral demi-muids before bottling without filtration. Where most Cornas is fierce and tannic, Juge's wines are the most elegant and Burgundy-like of the appellation—accessible despite their legendary aging potential. The 2009 vintage, warm and generous, aligns perfectly with this style: deep terroir expression, spice and leather, with the freshness of dark berries underneath.
