The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"". When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his fathers success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.

Professional Reviews

"This is aromatically similar if a bit more elegant and certainly more complex and with a touch more floral character as well. There is excellent energy to the detailed and ultra-precise flavors that seemed to be extracted directly from liquid stone. I very much like the sense of proportion and balance here plus the overall quality is stunning for a villages level wine. This too is very much worth considering." -Allen Meadows

"The 2010 Meursault Les Vireuils is quite open in this vintage. There is a level of richness in the fruit that is quite unusual for Vireuils. At the same time, the finish is a bit attenuated. White stone fruits, pears, flowers, smoke and slate flow through to the finish. I find a bit less energy than is typically the case." -Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

RP 94
"The Meursault les Vireuils ’10 possesses a show-stopping bouquet that is more reminiscent of say, a Puligny Cailleret, its rich precocious fruit not obfuscating its granitic personality. There is astonishing clarity on the palate that is delicate and pretty, subtle citrus and peach on the entry that segues into a more terse, slate-like finish. This is an outstanding Meursault that should evolve beautifully over the next 10 to 15 years." -Neal Martin

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
