What is this wine?

Pascal Agrapart is one of the most respected grower-producers in Champagne, based in Avize in the Côte des Blancs and farming his Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards biodynamically. Terroirs is a Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut crafted from a blend of several Grand Cru villages—Avize, Oger, Cramant, and Oiry. It’s a perpetual blend, with a base of the most recent harvest (here 2021) and reserve wines from the previous two vintages (2020 and 2019). The long lees aging and low dosage highlight terroir purity and minerality.

Why get this wine?

Agrapart has become a benchmark for serious Blanc de Blancs, often compared to Larmandier-Bernier or Selosse, but with its own signature of precision and chalk-driven intensity. Terroirs offers a superb introduction to the domaine, combining accessibility with real depth and cellar potential. It delivers Grand Cru pedigree at a price that’s still far below luxury-house bottlings of similar quality.

What does this wine taste like?

Vivid citrus and green apple with white flowers, chalk, and a touch of brioche from lees aging. The palate is taut, mineral, and saline, with fine bubbles and a lingering, mouthwatering finish.

When should you drink this wine?

Excellent now as an aperitif or with oysters, sushi, or light poultry. Will gain complexity over the next 5–7 years in bottle. Serve chilled, but not too cold, to appreciate its texture and depth.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 93
"The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Terroirs is an excellent introduction to the estate’s Chardonnays. Disgorged in August 2024 with three grams per liter dosage, it’s composed of 20% from the 2021 vintage (vinified in tank), 50% from 2020 and 30% from 2019, with half of the reserve wines aged on the lees in approximately 30-year-old demi-muids. Heavily based on Oger (around 40% of the blend), with the remainder coming from Oiry, Cramant and Avize, it’s already expressive, offering aromas of honeysuckle, nectarine, bread and fresh hazelnut. Medium to full-bodied with bright acidity and complemented by a pillowy mousse, it concludes with a long, sapid finish." -Kristaps Karklins

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
