Long lost Merfy fruit showing us what history proved true-this is a terroir to recognize. 50/50 Chardonnay & Pinot Noir. Gentle bubbles, blue fruits and snappy rainier cherry. "The NV Brut Cuvée Ste.-Anne is one of the best Champagnes readers will find in its price range, or any price range, for that matter. Bright and beautifully focused, the Ste.-Anne has so much to offer. The purity of the flavors is just remarkable. If anything, it needs more time on the cork to soften, as it is quite reticent at this stage. This release is based on 2017, with reserve wines from 2016 and 2015. The blend is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier, with the Chardonnay very much in evidence at this stage. Dosage is 5.15 grams/liter. 92 points" -- Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

After a stage with Antoine Selosse, Alexandre Chartogne returned to the family estate and turned it upside down. He spent years experimenting and tinkering with every aspect of Champagne making from vine management to vessels. He's landed back where he says his ancestors started: in the vineyards, growing perfect fruit and aging in neutral oak.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 90
"The latest release of Chartogne's NV Brut Sainte Anne is based on the 2017 vintage, complemented by 40% reserve wines. Disgorged in September 2020 with five grams per liter dosage, it opens in the glass with aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, white flowers and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's elegantly textural, bright and precise, with a seamless, harmonious profile." -Robert Parker

Wine Spectator

WS 92
"A lively Champagne, with a fine, lacy mousse and flavors of grapefruit granita, preserved lemon, crunchy white peach and delicate herbs set on a chalk-tinged base. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
