Paitin’s 2006 Sorì Paitin Vecchie Vigne is everything you could want in a mature Barbaresco—deep, expressive, and still full of energy, especially in magnum. This bottling comes from the oldest vines in the Sorì Paitin cru, a south-facing slope in Neive with a long track record of producing structured, age-worthy Nebbiolo.

After nearly two decades, it’s settled into its prime. The 2006 vintage brings richness and grip, but the wine has softened beautifully—dried cherry, rose petals, leather, cedar, and wild herbs, with layers of spice and a mineral backbone. The tannins are still present, but silky, and the finish is long, savory, and quietly powerful.

Aged traditionally in large neutral botti and bottled with minimal interference, this is classic Barbaresco through and through, with added depth from old vines and extra aging grace from the magnum format.

Ideal with braised meats, truffled risotto, aged cheeses—or just a slow evening and a proper decanter. This is a wine built for reflection and reward.

A recent visit to the Paitin estate in Neive was full of delicious wines and fascinating history. The Pasquero-Elia family has been working these vineyards since 1796, and bottling the wines as Barbaresco for more than a century, even before their village officially joined Barbaresco. Three generations of the family are at work today in the vineyards and cellar, working organically and crafting Nebbiolo wines with equal power and grace.
