Rene Rostaing, VdP Collines Rhodaniennes Lezardes Viognier, 2023
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
What is this wine?
René Rostaing’s “Les Lezardes” Viognier 2023 is a fragrant white from the Collines Rhodaniennes, the hillsides just outside Côte-Rôtie in the northern Rhône Valley. Rostaing, one of Côte-Rôtie’s most acclaimed producers, makes Les Lezardes from younger vines and parcels lying just beyond the appellation’s borders. Made entirely from Viognier, fermented and aged mostly in stainless steel with minimal oak, it captures the purity and freshness of the grape without heaviness.
Why get this wine?
René Rostaing is known for precision and restraint, and this Viognier shows exactly that—perfumed yet balanced, with energy and minerality rare for the variety. It’s a perfect alternative to richer Condrieu, offering real pedigree and finesse at a far gentler price. A beautiful introduction to northern Rhône whites from one of the region’s masters.
What does this wine taste like?
Aromas of white peach, apricot, and honeysuckle unfold into notes of citrus zest and almond. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with lively acidity balancing the lush fruit. Finishes long, floral, and clean.
When should you drink this wine?
Enjoy now through 2027 while its fruit and freshness shine. Serve lightly chilled with shellfish, grilled chicken, or creamy cheeses.
