Schloss Gobelsburg, in the Kamptal 80 kilometers northwest of Vienna, dates wine production to 1171—the oldest winery in the Danube region. In 1996, Eva and Michael Moosbrugger took the winemaking contract after Michael worked under Willi Bründlmayer's mentorship. Michael earned 'Winemaker of the Year' from Falstaff (2006), Austria's highest honor. This 2023 Zöbing Riesling (Kamptal DAC classification) represents the estate's specialization in Riesling, showcasing the Kamptal's geologically diverse terroirs. At just one year old, the wine displays bright acidity, stone-fruit character, and the mineral precision that Gobelsburg's terroir delivers. The estate's innovative 'Dynamic Cellar Concept' (wines transported in barrels on wheels rather than pumped) preserves delicate flavors. Ready now or cellar 8-12 years.
