Corsica's native Sciaccarellu grape—whose name derives from the Corsican word for "crunchy"—makes some of the Mediterranean's most distinctive rosés, and Domaine du Vaccelli is its finest expression. Alain Courrèges and his son Gérard farm eighteen hectares of organic vineyard on granite soils in the Taravu valley between Ajaccio and Propriano, producing fewer than seven thousand cases annually. Their rosé is fermented with native yeasts in a combination of foudres and concrete eggs, an approach that preserves the grape's vivid personality: tart red berries, wild herbs, black pepper, and the aromatic imprint of the Corsican maquis. The granite terroir adds a saline minerality that sets this apart from mainland Provençal rosé. Bright, serious, and structured enough to pair with charcuterie, grilled fish, or a full Corsican meal—not just a poolside sipper.

"Crafted from Sciaccarellu planted on granitic soils, the 2023 Ajaccio Rosé is showing very well today, evoking aromas of spring flowers, lemon oil, red berries, iodine and mint mingled with fresh thyme.
