One tiny sliver of sun-blessed gravel cutting between Gruaud Larose and Ducru Beaucaillou has, unbelievably, remained in a humble family of grape farmers for over three centuries. Today it is stewarded by Jean-François Fillastre, who is the last living member of his family, and therefore quite literally the world’s final direct link to pre-modern Bordeaux. In the tradition of his ancestors, Monsieur Fillastre forgoes sulfur and new oak treatments and finishes his stately Cabernet blends in neutral oak foudres.
